What kind of physician is Dr. Raftery?

Dr. Raftery is a spinal surgeon and treats spinal conditions including disc herniations, spinal stenosis, compression fractures, spinal deformities, pediatric spine disorders, fractures, trauma, tumors and spinal infections.

What health insurance do you accept?

We accept most health insurances with the exception of most state health care plan. As we continue to expand, we may add new insurance plans. Please contact our office for more information.

What do I need in order to schedule an appointment?

Contact our office to discuss what is needed to schedule a new patient appointment.

My doctor told me I needed to see a neursurgeon. Can I still see Dr. Raftery?

Dr. Raftery is board certified in orthopedic surgery and also has specialized fellowship spine training, including orthopaedics and neurosurgery. Because of his training, he is able to perform surgery without needing an assistant surgeon.

If you need to see a surgeon for your spine, you should see Dr. Raftery.

What do I need to bring to my first appointment?
We are dedicated to making your experience with us enjoyable while providing outstanding care and treatment. We ask that you bring the following to your visit:

  • The new patient paperwork that you received in the mail
  • Your insurance card(s)
  • A photo id (a requirement by law to verify your identity)
  • The required copay as defined by your insurance carrier
  • Actual Xray/MRI films or disc provided by imaging facility
How do I request refills of prescriptions? How do I refill my prescriptions?

Our office requires a 48 hour notice for all prescription requests/refills. Please contact our office during normal business hours to request a medication/refill. Refills cannot be called in after hours or during weekends.

If I need surgery, where will my surgery be scheduled?

Dr. Raftery has privileges at Waterbury Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital.

I have paperwork from my supplemental insurance company that needs to be completed? How can I get this done?

Disability/FMLA paperwork will be completed only for conditions which, from a structural standpoint, require patients to be out of work.

If you have a condition which requires you to be out of work, there will be a $10 charge to complete this paperwork.
